Yalaguz Fm

Period:
Neoproterozoic

Age Interval:
Early Nanhuan (late Tonian), Nh (11)

Province:
Xinjiang

Type Locality and Naming

Tieklik region (SW Tarim Basin). The Yalaguz Fm was named by Ma Shipeng, Wang Yuzhen et al., (1979), which was published by Fang Xilian (1980) in Xinjiang Geology. The type section is located in Yalaguz, Qiakmakelik Valley along the Xinjiang-Tibet highway in Yecheng County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

Synonym: (牙拉古兹组)

Lithology and Thickness

The Yalaguz Fm consists of three parts. Lower part is pink very thick keratophyre (volcanic) conglomerate with arkose lenses and large-scale oblique-bedding. Middle part is pink medium-thick-bedded arkose with siltstone and silty mudstone, with cross-bedded found in sandstone. Upper part is pink very thick keratophyre medium- to coarse-pebble conglomerate with fine-pebbled conglomerate. The thickness considerably from 227.7 m around Xinjiang-Tibet Road (Qiakmakelik), to 124.9 m at Halastan River in the west part; and only 36.6 m at Sumalan River in the east part.

Lithology Pattern:
Volcanics

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The Yalaguz Fm is unconformable onto the underlying Sukulouk Gr of Qingbaikouan.

Upper contact

The top is disconformably overlain by the Bolong Fm of the Qiakmakelik Gr

Regional extent

Tieklik region (SW Tarim Basin). The Yalaguz Fm is mainly distributed in Xugou of Qipan Township, Yecheng County, the Halastan River and the Qiakemakelik Valley on both sides of Xinjiang-Tibet Road and Sumalan River on the east.
